SUPER / MODEL” a solo exhibition of New York City based artist WOLFEYES (GL Wood) and curated by Diego Ponce. “SUPER / MODEL” is inspired by comic books the artist grew up with as a child and the artist’s own photography; having worked in the fashion/celebrity world for the past 8 years. Along with watercolor, spray paint, tape, re-purposed materials, oils and acrylics, he uses them all to form a mixed media form of art. .
GL deconstructs and reconstructs comic book and fashion imagery in order to take the viewer on a journey through the contemporary social scene, exploring both the imagination and the irony of the human condition. Drawing on his early passion for comic book characters, GL’s collages challenge the marginalized place of the character portrait in contemporary art, and allows the artist to create his own vibrant and eccentric world in the midst of urban life. Wolfeyes (GL Wood), is a graduate of the University of Georgia, holds a BA from the Brooks Institute of Photography, as well as studying art in London and Italy. GL grew up in the state of Georgia, and currently lives and works in New York City.
