This series of photos was shot in Tulum, Mexico, in a tiny Cenote that felt like a hidden oasis. The Yucatan is filled with such magical places, and I found this one to be particularly enchanting due to its small size yet powerful energy and vibrant colors. A Cenote is defined as a deep natural well or sinkhole, formed by the collapse of surface limestone that exposes groundwater underneath.
These natural sinkholes are considered sacred spots in the Mayan world and are believed to be entrances to the underworld.) On this tranquil morning, the light danced off the surface of the healing waters, reflecting back luxurious shades of green and blue. My models were simply open-minded fellow travelers whom I had befriended along my adventures. Their only direction was to play, feel free and express their essence within the refreshing cool water. Shot from above, the water was so crystal clear that one could almost experience a sense of being submerged themselves. Naked bodies assumed shapes that felt poetic, childlike and evocative; yet completely natural and spontaneous. Shot in February 2020 only weeks before the advent of Covid, for me these photos have an innocent and womblike quality that convey feelings of ritual, rebirth and true freedom.”
