As an unmistakable sign of vitality

Produced by SALON DE MACHALA, SIXTH EDITION & Taylor & Ponce Contemporary Art
Curated by Enrique Madrid, Director of the Salon 2015, Machala – Ecuador

The SALON DE JUNIO MACHALA explores in this edition the possibility to grow and increasing its artistic quality, aiming to achieve a better connection with art and its context, especially with the viewers, who are always aware of contextualizing their ideas and knowledge with the artistic proposals shown in this event. Art makes sense through the readings people make of it, and this salon is looking for a better way to stimulate and widen those readings. The most important role of the salon is to take the challenge of creating a space that helps us to generate deeper art notions in our cultural environment, linking our own cultural heritage with the artistic cultures of the world, within a horizontal dialogue that enriches our sense of belonging. The Salon de Junio Machala increases our artistic references, contributing to improving the perception and understanding of reality.

In this sixth edition, we have created a singular, visual metaphor to represent the salon, using the highly loaded cultural meaning of the number six and its visual similarity to the golden spiral. The number six becomes a source of cultural allusions to beauty, intelligence, adaptability, and sensitivity. We have introduced some changes this year for the salon, a shift that aims to reach the goal of positioning the salon in the international contemporary art dynamics. Several collateral events are going to take place around the salon. Our

The special guest character for this edition is Adam Miller, a well-known American artist who combines a deep knowledge of traditional Western painting techniques with visual proposals derived from contemporary culture. Adam Miller will exhibit at the salon and will also give a painting workshop.

Tensamientos: Beyond form — collateral even, is an art exhibit that will offer the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of important artists from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, the United States, Canada, and Peru. From a curatorial perspective, this thoroughly curated exhibit offers possible spots of interpretation on the expansion of painting and video art.

We also have the privilege of counting this year on a great contribution from remarkable artists from China, Canada, Colombia, and Ecuador, characters of proven expertise, who are going to accomplish the role of admission jury and award jury. These designations will certainly have a positive impact on the salon’s artistic, vel. We are excited to see how these improvements will eventually allow us to increase our international network of artistic connections.
